Behind the distinctive frontage of The Property Shop in Bridlington’s lively Quay Road lies a story of a hard-working family man who’s poured his heart and soul into building up a successful business to offer the townsfolk a genuine, quality and reputable service.
Ryan’s experience in property refurbishment, letting and management stems all the way-back to 1997, when he bought his first block of flats in Bridlington.
After years of graft and honing his knowledge, skills and contacts within the property management trade, his chance to turn his passion into a professional full-time business came in 2013 when he proudly launched The Property Shop alongside his wife Kathryn.
Bridlington Born and Bred
The Melles family feel a strong sense of connection to their home town. “I live in Bridlington, I love the place, this is a family business and we’ve set out to provide a service that helps local people,” Ryan explained. “We are the only specialist full-service lettings and property management agency here, we focus on this alone rather than property sales, so we’re able to give it 100 per cent of our attention.”
Before long, demand for their expertise grew, and Ryan made the decision to move to bigger premises – all the way over to next-door but one on Quay Road! He said: “We basically outgrew the first shop. It’s important to us that we have a physical presence on the street and plenty of room to be able to sit and chat with clients, be they landlords or tenants.
“The new shop is almost twice as big, so we’ve got room for a private meeting space, a workshop at the back, and room for Kathryn and Tracey our Property Manager to work in the front. There’s plenty of parking space nearby too so it’s convenient for anyone wanting to just pop in.”
Thinking Outside The Box
As with the first shop, this one has been branded in grey with attractive, industrial-style interior décor and bespoke items of furniture made by Ryan.
This out-of-the-box thinking and careful attention to detail is something that runs throughout Ryan’s work, and is evident in his constant appraisal of all the latest rules and regulations in the industry.
“Landlords and Investors often approach me for a bit of advice about a particular situation they are in or an idea they have. I’m always more than happy to help, it’s all part of the service,” he added.
The Property Shop is also bang up to date with its own systems and software, using technology specially designed for property agencies to manage lets in the most secure way possible. This also enables them to offer landlords and tenants access to a helpful 24/7 online portal, although there’s always a real person at the end of the phone or in the shop should anyone prefer actual human contact!
Keeping It Local
In terms of The Property Shop’s geographic range, it covers roughly a 12-mile circle around Bridlington, including Flamborough, Bempton, Hunmanby, Driffield, and Nafferton.
Residential properties available to rent include apartments, flats, bungalows and houses across the area, while the commercial and block management side of the business is currently increasing as demand for these services grows.
